Ground Cover Perennials for Shade

	Snow on the Mountain – A fast growing, very drought tolerant perennial with variegated leaves grows 18” tall and can spread to fill in an area. A good plant for beneath pine trees.
	Vinca Vine (Periwinkle) – This viney semi-evergreen hugs the ground and spreads up to 3’ producing quarter sized purple flowers spring and summer. Varieties offer different leaf color from dark green to variegated white or yellow.
	Ajuga – A fast growing dark leafed perennial adds lush color with dense foliage and purple-blue flowers. Will spread to fill in an area.
	Creeping Mahonia – A woody evergreen perennial that can spread up 3-4’. Related to the Oregon Grape this perennial is very drought tolerant and deer resistant. Mahonia produce yellow flowers in the spring followed by bright blue berries. In winter the leaves turn an attention-grabbing coppery purple.
	Lamium (Dead Nettle) - This fast growing perennial can spread to fill in an area. Pink to purple flowers appear in spring and variegated foliage will add color to darker areas. Lamium is tough perennial tolerant of a variety of soil, moisture, and light conditions.
