Xeric Perennials (Drought Tolerant)

Nick's carries thousands of species and varieties of plants suited for our climate including many difficult to find items. Below or only SOME of the more popular selections.

Dianthus

  • Dianthus – Also called Pinks, this relative of the Carnation produces a fragrant lavish show of flowers in spring and if dead headed will continue to re-bloom. Blue grass-like foliage produces many uniquely patterned colors of flowers from deep red to spotted pinks and whites.

Echinacea

  • Echinacea – Also called Cone Flower this perennial can grow 3-4’ tall with a wide variety of flower colors. The large flowers are great for cutting and attract butterflies and humming birds into your garden.

Salvia

  • Salvia – A true hardy and reliable Sage, Salvia comes in many shapes, sizes and colors but all produce beautiful spring and summer flowers some lasting until fall. Fragrant tubular flowers attract humming birds and butterflies

Lupine

  • Lupine – A Colorado native this deer resistant perennial produces lush tufts of flowers in late spring and comes in almost every color of the rainbow. Lupine is a traditional favorite in gardens and most grow about 2’ tall and wide.

Penstemon

  • Penstemon – Colorado has 40+ different native species of Penstemon and garden varieties come in as many varieties and colors. Great for attracting butterflies and humming birds tubular flowers appear in late spring and summer and will rebloom if cut back after initial flowering.

Yarrow

  • Yarrow – Ferny gray foliage produces tufts of yellow, white, pink, and red flowers in the summer. Great for adding late season color into a garden. This fragrant plant can come in many forms and sizes.

Sedum

  • Sedum - A very drought tolerant succulent, sedum comes in many varieties adding great texture and color contrast.

Lavender

 

 

 

  • Lavender – A fragrant perennial herb sports robust spikes of purple flowers in spring and attractive gray-blue foliage.
  • Cranesbill - A fast growing hardy Geranium, this mounding perennial begins to flower in spring and continues throughout the growing season and has a red fall color for long lasting beautiful addition to a garden.
