Medium and Small Flowering Shrubs

Nick's carries thousands of species and varieties of plants suited for our climate including many difficult to find items. Below or only SOME of the more popular selections.

Spirea

  • Spirea – Spirea are low maintenance spring flowering shrubs and many varieties repeat bloom throughout the year. Spirea come in a variety of pronounced foliage colors where lime green, solid green, to and magenta can appear on the same plant. Compact varieties are great additions to rock gardens for brilliant foliar contrast.

Wielela

  • Weigela – Weigela also come in a variety of colors and sizes. Tubular flowers in spring range from white to pink, to fuchsia, and red and attract humming birds. The dark almost purple foliage of certain varieties makes for perfect pairing with Magic Carpet Spirea for amazing color contrast.

Potentilla

  • Potentilla -  A Colorado native, this drought tolerant shrub blooms all summer long with white, red, coral, or pink blooms. A general pruning in early spring helps keep the shrub tight and uniform.

Burning Bush

  • Dwarf Burning Bush – A zero maintenance plant growing 5-6’ tall. The brilliant red fall color give this bush its name. Flowers on this shrub are insignificant but the dense even growth provides lush texture into the yard

Barberry

  • Barberry – A popular resident of many landscapes this traditionally red leafed plant flowers yellow in the spring producing small red fruit. Other varieties include green, gold, and variegated leaves. Dwarf varieties are sized perfect for rock garden specimens.
